Our Programs The $25 Annual Membership Dues is required for all classes.    Children's Schedule Children's Theatre ~ Ages 6 to 8 Experience includes choral recitations, singing, props, backdrops, costumes and stage presence, culminating with a Spring 2007 production of Snow White. Ongoing: Fridays, June 9, 2006 to May 12, 1007 ~ 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fee: $25 a month, $15 for each additional child from same family, due and payable on the first Friday of every month. Homework Helpers ~ Grades 1, 2, and 3 Supervised by credentialed teacher with trained teen tutors to provide one-on-one assistance with all homework, including English, Reading, Math, and Spelling. Formal instructions will be offered as needed. Session 1: Mon - Wed, Jun 5 to Dec 6, 2006 Session 2: Mon - Wed, Jan 8 to June 12, 2007 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fee: Parent Membership only for the 1st child, $10 for each additional child from same family. Fee(s) for additional child(ren) due and payable on the 1st Monday of each month. Kid Chef ~ Ages 7 to 9 Minimum 9 children required to start class.  Primarily baking, except for stir fry experience every 6th week with parent invitation to dine. Session 1: Thu, June 8 to Dec 7, 2006 Session 2: Thu, Jan 8 to June 15, 2007 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Fee: $25 a month, $15 for each additional child from same family, due nd payable on the first Friday of each month. RAD Around the World ~ Ages 6 and 7 Reading reinforcement through social studies, highlighting Africa, Japan and Mexico in first session; Korea, England and Gardena in the second session. Session 1: Mon thru Fri, Jun 5 to Dec 8, 2006 Session 2: Mont thru Fri, Jan 8 to June 15, 2007 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Fee: $100 with $25 parent membership. Add'; $20 a week for child staying till 5 p.m., due and payable Monday of each week. YOUTH, Volunteerism Teen Tutors ~ Ages 12 to 14 Trained especially to assist 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders in Homework Helpers class, one-on-one in Reading, English, Spelling and Math. Mon - Wed, 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. ~ Earlier on Shortened Tuesdays VolunTEENS ~ Ages 15 to 18 Community service & special projects supported with fund raisers and donations, i. e.: Fill birthday and holiday bags with treats for convalescents; Tutor RAD kids; Plan/Work in Heritage Festival booth; Donate biannually to Gardena Police K-9 Fund; Ship packages to our troops in Tikrit, Iraq; (new) Collect canned goods for Gardena Food Pantry. Meetings: Tuesdays, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Events: As scheduled ADULTS ~ Career Booster Drop-In Computer Assistance For Members: Drop-in anytime during our office hours to work on your church, school, club or office projects using Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, or internet access. Instructor assistance available by appointment on Friday afternoons from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. No charge with membership ~ Instructor: Linda Sumoge ADULTS ~ Career Opportunities Willie-T Job Training ~ leading to 20/ht a week part-time position One-on-One in-house training in office procedures and teacher assistance, providing the experiences that could lead to employment in either area. Open to any woman with a high school diploma or working for GED. Next trainee: May 2007 ~ Minimum wage, 10 to 15 hours a week Community Liaison Coordinator Trainee Great opportunity for a people-person woman. Arrange meetings with parent groups at local schools; Recruit volunteers to raise funds for scholarships for children's programs; Form Selection Committee to award the scholarships. Assisi with children and youth groups for a working knowledge of the YWCA programs & classes; Use and learn to use computer; Work primarily weekdays, usually from 10 to 2. with occasional; Saturdays and/or evenings. Job Requirements: Able to work with minimum supervision Creative and resourceful 21 years of age to spry seniors Fluent in English and Spanish Valid California drivers license Police Clearance Recent Negative Tuberculin Test Able to switch work schedule/hours Training Period, 10 hours/week @ Minimum Wage ADULTS ~ Physical Fitness Tai Chi ~ Intermediate An ancient Chinese healing and moving form of meditation. Loose clothing, soft shoes. Ongoing: Tuesday evenings, 7:00 to 8:00 Fee: $32 for 4 week months / $40 for 5 week months with $25 membership Instructor: James Ibrao ADULTS ~ Volunteerism Volunteer Corps Assist Community Liaison Coordinator in organizing fundraisers, such as bake or garage sales to support programs/classes for children. Board of Directors By invitation to serve 1, 2, or 3 year terms, meeting on the second Wednesday of each month to fulfill the YWCA Mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. ADULTS ~ Just-For-Fun Bead Stringing 1st & 3rd Thurs, 7 - 9 p.m. Restring a necklace or make someone happy with your own one-or-a-kind creation.
